Zayos and Toast.
Published July 2026 · Updated July 26, 2026
Zayos runs alongside Toast, it does not replace it. Your Toast terminals, payments and payroll stay exactly as they are. Zayos adds a branded direct ordering site, and those orders land in Toast as normal tickets through the Otter connection included in your plan.
Do I have to leave Toast to use Zayos?
No, and that is the point. Toast is a register, a payment processor and a back office. Zayos is the front door your diners order through and the customer list that comes with it. The two do different jobs, so the honest way to read this page is as a ledger of what stays put and what actually moves.
Stays on Toast, untouched
- Toast terminals, handhelds and kitchen printers on the line
- Toast payment processing for anything rung in store
- Toast Payroll, scheduling and reporting
- Your Toast menu as the master record the kitchen trusts
- Toast gift cards and Toast loyalty, exactly as configured today
Changes when Zayos goes live
- Diners get a branded ordering site on your own domain instead of a Toast subdomain
- Direct orders arrive already paid, through Stripe, and post into Toast as tickets
- DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub tickets join direct orders on one tablet
- The diner email and phone belong to you, in your customer book, not to a marketplace
- Menu and 86 changes push out to every channel from one place
What data moves between Toast and Zayos, and which way?
Two directions, both running through Otter, the order aggregation layer included with your plan. Orders travel toward Toast. Menu truth travels away from it, out to your site and the delivery apps.
Into Toast
Items, modifiers, special instructions, guest name, order type and requested time post into Toast as a ticket, the same way a phone order rung by a host would.
Direct orders arrive marked paid. The card was captured by Stripe at checkout, so no one at the counter has to run it again.
Pickup, delivery and dine in arrive tagged, so the ticket routes to the right prep station and the right tax treatment.
Out to your site and the apps
Categories, items, prices, modifier groups and photos flow out from your menu master to the ordering site and to the marketplaces.
When the kitchen kills an item, it goes unavailable on your site and on the apps rather than staying orderable until someone remembers to log in.
One change to hours reaches the ordering site and the marketplace listings instead of three separate portals.
How do I connect Toast to Zayos, and what do I have to do?
Three things, and only one of them needs you in front of a computer. Zayos handles the wiring on our side.
Tell us you are on Toast before you sign
Toast has several product configurations and a few restaurants run a locked down enterprise build. We confirm your exact setup during the intake call so nobody discovers a surprise in week two. This costs nothing and does not require Toast to be involved yet.
Authorize the connection from your Toast account
You approve the integration from inside Toast, using your own owner level login. We never ask for your Toast password. Modern cloud POS connections are typically working within one to three business days of that approval.
Run a live test order before the site goes public
We place a real order on your new site, watch it land on the kitchen tablet, print, and post into Toast, then check the modifiers came through correctly. Nothing goes public until that round trip is clean. Most Zayos launches are live in under two weeks with the first direct order inside a week.
Where does a Toast connection usually go wrong?
Modifiers are where integrations actually break
Toast models choices as modifier groups. Uber Eats calls them option lists, Grubhub calls them choice groups, DoorDash calls them option sets. The translation between those four models is the single most common source of a wrong ticket. We map the modifier tree during onboarding and test it with real orders, item by item, on the dishes you sell most.
Two online ordering front doors is one too many
If Toast Online Ordering stays switched on next to your Zayos site, some diners will order through the old link, your reviews and reorder prompts will point in two directions, and your reporting splits. Decide which one is the front door before launch. We do not switch Toast Online Ordering off for you, that is your account and your decision.
Your Toast contract is a separate conversation
Restaurants often sign multi year Toast agreements with hardware attached. Zayos does not end, shorten or renegotiate that agreement, and you should not plan around cancelling it. Zayos is additive: it changes where your online orders come from, not who runs your registers.
What does the Zayos Toast integration not do?
Zayos does not replace Toast. It does not touch your in store payment processing, payroll, gift cards, Toast loyalty or Toast hardware, it does not cancel or renegotiate your Toast contract, it cannot hand you the customer records Toast holds, and it does not switch Toast Online Ordering off for you.
A few smaller limits worth knowing before you sign. Historical Toast sales reporting stays in Toast, Zayos reports on the orders it takes. Table service detail such as seat numbers and coursing does not travel with an online order, because an online order is not a seated check. And if your Toast build is a locked enterprise configuration, the connection needs Toast on the call, which is why we ask about it at intake rather than at launch.
