Leaving Slice? The honest field for pizzerias, Zayos included.

Published July 2026 · Updated July 26, 2026

Quick answer

Slice publishes two plans: Online at $39 a month plus $3.00 per order, and Family at $399 a month plus $2.00 per order with a $1,000 implementation fee. Pizzerias leave over per-order fees at volume, hardware lock in, or growth past pizza. Zayos is one of six alternatives here.

Why pizzerias look

Why do pizzerias leave Slice?

Credit first: Slice does not take a percentage of your food revenue, it says so on its own product page, and it knows pizza better than any generalist platform on this page. Four verified reasons operators still shop, each drawn from Slice's own published pricing and product pages, accessed July 2026.

01

Does the per-order fee outgrow the subscription?

This is the number one reason and it is arithmetic, not opinion. Slice Online is $39 a month plus $3.00 per order (credit card orders only). At 150 online orders a month that is $489. At 400 it is $1,239. At 800 it is $2,439. The subscription is small and the order fee is the bill. Pizzerias tend to shop for an alternative in the month they notice the platform line grew faster than sales did.

02

Is the Family plan a real commitment?

Slice Family is $399 a month plus $2.00 per order, with a $1,000 implementation fee, month to month, and it bundles the hardware: Slice Register, stand, payment terminal, cash drawer, receipt printer, kitchen printer and network kit, plus phone ordering, flex delivery, discounted supplies and an account manager. That is a genuine package. It is also a register-level decision, and switching later means switching your counter, not just your website.

03

What happens when you are not only a pizzeria anymore?

Slice is built for pizza and says so on every product page. Open a second concept that sells shawarma, wings, poke or coffee and the platform that made your pizza shop efficient has nothing to sell you. Operators with two brands in one kitchen, or a family running a pizzeria and a market, usually leave for scope reasons rather than price.

04

Do the delivery apps still land on a separate tablet?

Slice does not advertise third party marketplace order ingestion anywhere on its product pages (checked 2026-07-26). So the DoorDash tablet, the Uber Eats tablet and the Grubhub tablet stay where they are, with menus and hours maintained in every one of them. If your actual pain is four screens on the pass at 7pm, a cheaper ordering page does not fix it.

The arithmetic

What does Slice cost at your order count?

Per-order pricing is invisible until it is not. Below is the monthly platform bill at three order counts, using Slice's published rates and a flat $499 fee for comparison. Card processing is excluded on every row because every platform charges it and the rate depends on your processor, so including it would flatter whichever side we picked.

Monthly online orders Slice Online ($39 + $3.00) Slice Family ($399 + $2.00) Zayos Operator (flat $499)
150 online orders / month $489 $699 $499
400 online orders / month $1,239 $1,199 $499
800 online orders / month $2,439 $1,999 $499
The crossover

Against a flat $499 a month, Slice Online stops being the cheaper option at about 153 online orders a month, because ($499 minus $39) divided by $3.00 is 153.3. Slice Family stops being cheaper at about 50 orders a month, before its one time $1,000 implementation fee. If you are under those counts, staying put is the right answer and this page just saved you a demo.

Family per-order fees apply to online and phone orders only, and Family charges no per-order fee on orders under $10, so a real Family bill can land below the figure above depending on your ticket mix.

The field

Which Slice alternative fits which pizzeria?

Six options, including staying where you are. Every price is either from the vendor's own published pricing page or attributed to the source that reported it, accessed July 2026. Zayos is entry six and the entry says what it costs us to say.

01

Staying on Slice, Online Membership

$39/mo + $3.00 per order + 2.90% + $0.30 processing, month to month

Best for the shop doing under roughly 150 online orders a month.

The most honest answer on this page is that a lot of pizzerias should not leave. Slice does not take a percentage of your food revenue, its own product page says so plainly, and at low online volume $39 plus $3.00 an order is genuinely hard to beat. The break-even against a $499 flat fee sits at about 153 online orders a month. Below that line, leaving costs you money. Run your own count before you run a demo.

02

HungerRush

Starter from $0/mo if you qualify, processing 3.09% + $0.15, Custom plan quoted

Best for pizzerias that want a pizza shaped POS and will negotiate a quote.

HungerRush is the closest like for like to Slice Family: a pizza first point of sale with delivery management, loyalty and marketing around it. Its published pricing page (accessed July 2026) lists a Starter plan from $0 a month for qualifying operators, including one terminal, cash drawer, card reader and receipt printer, with flat 3.09% + $0.15 processing on card present and card not present alike. Online ordering sits in the Custom plan, which is not priced publicly. Read that as a strength if you like negotiating and a weakness if you want to compare on a spreadsheet.

03

ChowNow

$249 / $349 / $449 per month, $229 / $319 / $409 annual, setup $119 to $499

Best for high volume shops that want a flat monthly with no platform fee per order.

ChowNow is the cheapest flat fee escape from per-order pricing, and at volume it beats us on price. Its published pricing page (accessed July 2026) lists Launch at $249 monthly or $229 billed annually, Grow at $349 or $319, Elevate at $449 or $409, with a $119 to $499 setup fee, processing at 2.95% + $0.29, $99 a year for the Apple developer account if you run the branded app, and $7.98 an order for Flex Delivery. Marketing contacts are capped by tier at 500, 2,000 and 5,000. It is direct ordering only, so the marketplace tablets stay separate.

04

Owner.com

$249/mo + 5% restaurant fee per order, or $499/mo flat, guests pay 5% at checkout

Best when the website and the marketing, not the order fee, are the problem.

If you are leaving Slice because your pizzeria is invisible next to its own DoorDash listing, Owner.com sells the growth side hard: site, SEO pages, branded app, loyalty and automated marketing. Its published pricing page (accessed July 2026) lists Flexible at $249 a month plus a 5% restaurant fee per order, and Flat Rate at $499 a month with no additional restaurant fee, best suited above $5,000 a month in online sales. On both plans the guest pays a 5% order support fee, month to month, no cancellation fees. Percentage fees grow with your ticket, which is the trade you are accepting.

05

Toast

$0 Starter Kit, $69/mo Point of Sale, online ordering costs extra, two year contract

Best for pizzerias replacing the whole counter, not just the ordering page.

Toast is the answer when the register, the kitchen screens, payroll and ordering all need to move at once. Per NerdWallet's Toast review (updated January 13, 2026): a free Starter Kit, a $69 a month Point of Sale plan, processing at 2.49% + $0.15 card present when you pay for hardware upfront, 3.09% + $0.15 pay as you go, and 3.50% + $0.15 card not present, on a standard two year contract with early termination fees. Online ordering costs extra. That contract length is a real step up from Slice month to month, so price the exit before you sign the entry.

06

Zayos

$499 Operator, $599 Operator + Marketplace, $699 Concierge, per location, no setup fee

Best above roughly 150 online orders a month, or when marketplace tablets are the pain.

This is our platform, so weigh it accordingly. Zayos is flat: $499, $599 or $699 per location per month, month to month, no setup fee, and there is no per-order platform fee charged to the pizzeria at any volume. The diner pays a small flat service fee at checkout, $0.99 pickup, $2.99 delivery, $0 dine in, 10% on catering, and the restaurant keeps 100% of food revenue and tips. The $599 tier ingests Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub orders through Otter so they land on the same tablet as direct orders. Honest counterweights: we cost more per month than Slice Online and more than ChowNow Launch, and we are the newest platform on this list. Naya Grill in Pompano Beach and West Palm Beach is the only restaurant live and taking orders on Zayos today, keeping over $48,000 a year that used to go to commissions at about 3,000 orders a month. Eight more storefronts are built with ordering opening at launch. Most operators are live in under 2 weeks.

Straight answers

Slice alternatives, answered.

How much does Slice cost a pizzeria in 2026?
Per slice.com/pricing (accessed July 2026), Slice publishes two month to month plans. Online Membership is $39 a month plus $3.00 per order on credit card orders, with card processing at 2.90% + $0.30. Family Membership is $399 a month plus $2.00 per order, with a $1,000 implementation fee, and it bundles hardware, phone ordering, flex delivery, discounted supplies and a dedicated account manager. Under Family, per-order fees apply to online and phone orders only, and there is no per-order fee on orders under $10.
At what order count does leaving Slice actually save money?
Compare the whole monthly bill, not the subscription. Slice Online at $39 plus $3.00 an order costs $489 at 150 online orders, $1,239 at 400 and $2,439 at 800. Against a $499 flat monthly fee, the crossover sits at about 153 online orders a month. Against Slice Family at $399 plus $2.00 an order, a $499 flat fee wins above about 50 orders a month once you set the one time $1,000 implementation fee aside. Card processing is excluded on both sides of that math because every platform charges it.
Does Slice take a commission on my food revenue?
No. Slice states on its own online ordering product page that it is commission free and does not take 20% to 30% of your orders the way the delivery marketplaces do (accessed July 2026). The cost is the subscription, the per-order fee of $2.00 or $3.00 depending on plan, card processing at 2.90% + $0.30, and the $1,000 implementation fee on Family. Commission free and per-order free are different claims, and the difference shows up at volume.
Is there a Slice alternative that also handles DoorDash and Uber Eats orders?
Two on this list. Toast pulls third party delivery orders in through its POS integrations. Zayos does it through Otter on the $599 Operator + Marketplace tier, so Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub tickets print on the same tablet as your direct orders. Slice, ChowNow and Owner.com are direct ordering only, and HungerRush does not publish an ingestion price. If four tablets on the pass is the real problem, that narrows the field fast.
I run a pizzeria and a second concept out of one kitchen. What changes?
Scope becomes the deciding factor rather than price. Slice is built for pizza, so a second brand that is not pizza has to live somewhere else, which usually means two vendors and two bills. Toast, ChowNow, Owner.com and Zayos are cuisine neutral. On Zayos the Concierge tier at $699 a month covers up to 5 virtual brands out of one kitchen, still billed per location.
Will I lose my customer list if I leave Slice?
Ask for the export in writing before you give notice, and ask specifically for order history with email and phone, not just a name count. Whichever platform you pick, your customer list is the asset that survives the switch. Get it out first, confirm the file opens, then schedule the cutover.
