What do owners ask about marking up app prices?

Why is the markup bigger than the commission?

Because the app takes its percentage of the higher price, not of your in-store price. To be left with $12.00 after a 30% commission you need $12.00 divided by 0.70, which is $17.14. That is 42.9% above $12.00, and the app keeps $5.14 of it.

Are restaurants allowed to charge more on delivery apps?

Each app sets its own terms, so read your agreement. One published example: Uber Eats lists a 7% pickup fee only with validated in-store pricing, meaning in-app pickup prices match in-store prices, and 10% without it (Uber Eats pricing page, read 4 October 2026). Higher app prices can also lower how often diners order.

What markup covers a 25% commission?

A 33.3% markup. A $12.00 item listed at $16.00 leaves you $12.00 after a 25% commission. The rule is commission divided by one minus commission: 0.25 divided by 0.75.

Is there a way to keep in-store prices online?

Yes, on your own ordering site. A direct order pays no commission, only about 3% card processing, so you can keep menu prices where they are. Zayos is a flat $399, $499 or $599 per location a month, and the diner pays a flat $0.99 service fee on pickup and delivery.
