Where does the language barrier actually cost you money?

Not in the dining room. You run a restaurant in two languages every day and you do it well. The problem is that the software speaks one language, and it speaks it badly. Ordering platforms are written in dense English, full of words that mean nothing outside their own offices. Three places where that costs real money:

The contract you signed

Delivery app agreements are long, written in legal English, and changed by email. Owners sign because a rep is standing in the shop and the tablet is already on the counter. The commission, the marketing charge and the notice period sit in three different sections.

The dispute you lost by default

A customer says the order was wrong. You have a few days to answer in English, through a form, with proof, or the money goes. Many owners do not answer. That is not a language failure. It is a system designed so that not answering is the easy option.

The dashboard nobody translated

Your sales number and the money that reaches your bank are two different numbers. The second is buried under words like adjustments, promotions and error charges. If you cannot read the report quickly, you cannot catch a mistake.

Every fee you cannot read is a fee you cannot argue with. That is the whole business model.

What do these English words actually mean?

The words that appear in every ordering contract and every dashboard, explained the way one operator explains them to another. Keep this page open when a rep visits.

Commission
The share of each order the delivery app keeps, usually 15% to 30%. Taken before you are paid.
Blended rate
The real total once commission, delivery, advertising and card fees are added up. Usually 25% to 35%.
Service fee
A charge added at checkout. On Zayos the diner pays it, not you: $0.99 pickup, $2.99 delivery, $0 dine in, 10% catering.
Chargeback
A customer tells their bank the order was wrong and the bank takes the money back. You must reply with proof, in English, before a deadline.
Direct ordering
A customer orders on your own website, with your name on it. No middle company, no commission on the food.
POS and KDS
The register you ring orders into, and the kitchen screen that shows tickets instead of paper.
Ingestion
Pulling app orders onto one screen, so the kitchen reads one tablet instead of four. Zayos does this through Otter.
Virtual brand
A second menu, under a different name, cooked in the same kitchen. Concierge includes up to five.
Net deposit
What actually reaches your bank after every fee is removed. Check this number, not the sales number.

More terms are on the glossary, and the app side is broken down on what DoorDash charges restaurants.

Can my menu show Arabic names next to English?

Yes, and it is worth more than it sounds. There is no single correct English spelling for most of your menu. Kibbeh, kibbe and kubba are one dish. Mandi and mendi are one dish. Shawarma has at least four spellings in common use on Warren Avenue alone.

A marketplace search box indexes one spelling. Everything a customer types differently disappears, and so does the dish.

On your own site, one item carries the Arabic name, an English spelling, alternate spellings and a short description. The customer who grew up with the dish finds it, and so does the neighbor who tried it once and only remembers how it sounded.

What should I ask before I sign anything?

Ask these of every vendor, including us. A vendor who will not answer in one sentence has told you something.

  1. 1How long is the contract, and what does it cost to leave? Zayos is month to month.
  2. 2What is the total percentage taken from a $100 order? On Zayos it is zero on the food.
  3. 3Who owns the customer list, with names and phone numbers? On Zayos, you do. Ask any app the same question.
  4. 4What is the setup fee? Zayos has none. If a vendor will not say the number, that is the answer.
  5. 5Who do I call at 8pm on a Friday? Ask for a name, not a support address.

Who are you, and are you in Dearborn?

Zayos is made by Zay Revenue Group, a company in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We are not in Michigan. There is no Dearborn office and we will not pretend there is one. Setup, menu building and support are done remotely, by people, not by a form.

One restaurant is live and taking orders on Zayos today: Naya Grill, in Pompano Beach and West Palm Beach, Florida. It keeps $48k+ per year that used to go to commissions, at roughly 3,000 orders a month. Other storefronts are built and open ordering at launch. No Dearborn restaurant is live yet. We would rather tell you that than invent a neighbor who recommends us.

The price is public and flat. Operator $499, Operator plus Marketplace $599, Concierge $699, each per location per month, no setup fee. Zero commission on food. Read pricing, how it works, or the Dearborn market page.

Questions we get asked most.

Can my menu show Arabic dish names next to English?

Yes. One dish can carry the Arabic name, an English spelling, and a short description. There is no single English spelling for most dishes. Kibbeh, kibbe and kubba are the same food. A marketplace search box indexes one spelling. Your own menu holds all of them.

What does Zayos cost, and what percentage do you take?

Zero percent of the food. Operator is $499 per month per location, Operator plus Marketplace is $599, and Concierge is $699 with up to five virtual brands per kitchen. No setup fee, month to month. You keep 100% of food revenue and tips. The diner pays $0.99 pickup, $2.99 delivery, $0 dine in, 10% catering.

Do I have to stop using DoorDash and Uber Eats?

No. Keep them for new customers who do not know you. On Operator plus Marketplace at $599, Otter pulls DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub orders onto the same kitchen tablet as your direct orders. Your regular families move to your own site, where those orders cost you nothing.

How long does it take to start?

Most operators are live in under two weeks, and the first direct order usually lands within a week of signing up. We build the menu with you. You do not type hundreds of items yourself.

Are you a Dearborn company?

No. Zay Revenue Group is a Fort Lauderdale, Florida company with no Michigan office, and we will not pretend otherwise. The restaurant live and taking orders on Zayos today is Naya Grill in Pompano Beach and West Palm Beach, Florida, which keeps $48k+ per year that used to go to commissions at roughly 3,000 orders a month.
