Zayos and Order with Google, take back the button
Published July 2026 · Updated July 26, 2026
When someone Googles your restaurant, the Order Online button on your Business Profile can point at a marketplace or at your own site. Zayos gives you a storefront to point it at. You set the ordering link inside your own Google Business Profile, and every click after that is yours.
Free, 60 seconds, no card. It checks your listing and your numbers together.
Google your own restaurant right now. Where does the button go?
Ninety seconds, phone in hand. Most owners have never done this, and about half do not like what they find.
- 01
Search your own restaurant name on your phone
Use the name plus your city, the way a regular does. Look at the panel on the right on desktop, or the card at the top on mobile. That panel is your Google Business Profile, and it is the most valuable piece of real estate your restaurant owns and did not build.
- 02
Find the Order Online button and tap it
Where did you land? If it opened DoorDash, Uber Eats or Grubhub, then a customer who searched for you by name, who already knew your name, just became a commission ticket. That is the most expensive click in the business, because you earned it and then paid for it.
- 03
Now check the hours and the menu on that panel
Wrong hours on Google cost more orders than a bad photo ever will. If the panel says you close at 9 and you close at 10, Google has been turning away your last hour of business, quietly, for as long as it has been wrong.
Why does one button matter more than a marketing budget?
Because of who is pressing it. A person typing your restaurant name into Google is not browsing for dinner ideas. They already chose you. Your food did that, your sign did that, a friend did that. Every dollar and every hour you have ever spent on marketing ends at that button.
So when the button hands that person to a marketplace, you pay a commission on a customer you already won. That is the whole trick, and it is not a conspiracy, it is just a link nobody ever changed. A search for your own name is the one piece of traffic you never have to buy, which makes giving it away the most expensive habit on this list.
Point it at your own storefront and the same click keeps 100 percent of the food revenue and 100 percent of the tips in your restaurant, and puts the diner’s name, phone and order history in your customer book instead of someone else’s. The arithmetic on the other side of that click is on what DoorDash charges restaurants.
How do I point it at my own site?
Five steps. Two are ours, three are yours, and none of them cost anything on Google’s side.
- 01
Claim and verify your Google Business Profile
If you have never claimed the listing, this comes first and only the business can do it. Google runs its own verification, by video, phone, postcard or another method it chooses, and Zayos cannot complete it for you. Allow real time here: verification is the step most likely to add days.
- 02
Get your Zayos storefront live on your own domain
The button needs somewhere honest to point. Your Zayos storefront is your menu, your brand, your prices, your customer record. Most restaurants are live in under 2 weeks and take a first direct order within a week of signing up.
- 03
Add your ordering link inside your own profile
In your Google Business Profile you add your ordering URL in the food ordering links, and set it as the one you prefer where Google gives you that control. You do this in your own Google account, or you add us as a manager and we do it with you. Either way the profile stays yours.
- 04
Fix hours, menu and photos while you are in there
Same visit, ten minutes. Accurate hours by day, holiday hours, a current menu, photos that look like the food you actually serve today. Google shows this panel to people who are ready to order right now, which makes it the highest intent surface you control.
- 05
Test it on a phone, not on your laptop
Search yourself again, tap the button, and place a real order end to end. Watch how many taps it takes. If a returning diner cannot get from the Google panel to a placed order in about three taps, fix that before you spend a dollar on marketing.
The storefront on the other end of that link is covered on the restaurant website builder, and the in house version of the same idea, a code on the table instead of a link on Google, is on QR code ordering.
What does Order with Google not do?
It does not remove the marketplaces from your listing
DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub can appear as ordering options on your profile because they hold a relationship with your restaurant and with Google. You can add your own link and state your preference. You cannot delete competitors from your own search result, and any vendor who promises that is guessing.
It is not an ad and it does not move your ranking
Pointing the button at your own site changes the destination, not the position. Where you sit in the local pack is driven by relevance, distance and prominence, including reviews. This is a conversion fix, not a ranking fix, and it is worth doing precisely because it is free.
Zayos cannot verify your listing for you
Verification is Google confirming that a real business exists at a real address, and it requires the business, not a vendor. We will sit on the call, tell you what Google is going to ask, and get the ordering link in the moment you are verified. We cannot be you.
Changes are not instant
Google reviews profile edits, and an ordering link, a name change or an hours change can take time to show. Make the change before your busy season, not during it, and check the live panel afterward rather than trusting the edit screen.
It does not keep your menu current by itself
The menu on your Google panel is a field in Google’s own product. Your Zayos storefront is always current because that is where the order is placed, but treat the Google menu as a shop window you dust monthly. A profile that lists a dish you stopped serving in April is a refund waiting to happen.
